The card of the day is "Ode to Life." About gratitude. Not the kind you squeeze out of yourself by force because "you're supposed to."
For a long time I didn't understand what there was to be grateful for when there's a hole inside. I got angry at God, at the spirituality I'd believed in my whole life — where's the answer? And then I noticed a simple thing: while I was listing what was missing, it was missing harder. The moment I started noticing what was there, something let go.
What the card is about: right now you're reading these lines. Your eyes see, your mind follows, your soul responds. For some people that's out of reach. It's already a gift — we just don't notice it, because it was always there.
The hard part: gratitude isn't self-deception. You don't have to pretend everything is fine. You can be in the pit and still say "thank you" for breathing, for having somewhere to sleep, for having someone in your life. It doesn't cancel the pain. But it stops feeding it.
What to do today: three "thank yous." Out loud or to yourself, but specific, not general. For something small that actually happened today.
The more you say "thank you," the more you notice what for.
"Gratitude isn't about everything being fine. It's about you seeing what's there."
