Today it's "Life." Not about what comes after death. About the trace you'd leave if tomorrow you looked back on today.

This question always got under my skin more than any other: who am I, why am I here, where is my strength. I basically started writing my book from zero — from a point where it felt like there'd be no trace at all. Just a shadow in someone's memory.

What the card is about: life is pages, and each one is writing your story right now. Not "someday I'll start living." Today. Every day is either a step along a road others will want to walk, or a path that later gets closed off and forgotten.

The hard part — time isn't endless, and that's not to scare you. It's so that each hour is worth more. We usually put off until tomorrow the very things that make us human: to call, to forgive, to do, to say.

What to do today: one thing you'll be quietly proud of by evening. Small. Not "change your life," but be a good friend for five minutes, an honest partner for one conversation, alive for one day.

Live this day so it's great for you yourself. Not for anyone else.
