Today's card is "Honesty." Not the kind they teach in some lecture about being a good boy — don't lie, don't steal. A different kind. The one that doesn't start with other people at all — it starts with the mirror, and the mirror is always the hard part. I lie to myself more than to anyone else. I tell myself things are fine when inside they've stopped being fine a while ago. I tell myself I'm doing something for others when really it's so I get praised for it. I tell myself it doesn't hurt, because admitting it hurts means I'd have to do something about it, and doing something is harder than just enduring. The soul isn't fooled as easily as I like to think — it feels every one of these small substitutions, every time I dress up as noble something I already know, deep down, is crooked. What piles up isn't guilt — it's weight. Like carrying an extra backpack and forgetting what's even in it anymore.

Here's the hard part: being honest with yourself almost always costs you something right now. Admitting you don't want this job risks the money. Admitting you're unhappy in a relationship risks the comfort you already know. That's exactly why lying is convenient — it's free today and borrows from tomorrow, with interest. I've paid those bills more than once — I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy the hangover of finally seeing how much you've lied to yourself over the years. But it's exactly in that moment, when you stop hiding, that things get lighter. Not pleasant right away — but lighter. Like taking that backpack off and finally seeing it was just a rock. Today, do this: ask yourself one honest question — not about anyone else, about you. What am I actually feeling right now? What do I actually want? Don't rush to the answer that sounds good. Take the one that comes first and stings a little. That's where the light starts — not from becoming flawless, but from no longer lying to the mirror.
