Today's card is "True Friendship." Not about how many people surround you. About who's still there when things actually go bad — not when everything's fine and you make a nice photo together.

I've been through this more than once — and every time, surprised by exactly who got washed away and who stayed standing. Some people are around only while you're convenient: while it's fun, while you have something to give, while your success doesn't sting them. The moment you stumble, get sick, go quiet for a couple of months — they evaporate, like they were never there. That's not really betrayal, it's honest, in its own way: they weren't friends, they were just occupying the space next to you. Worse is the one who stays but carries envy underneath, quietly chipping away at what's yours, offering "friendly" criticism at exactly the moment you needed a shoulder instead. That one is the hardest to spot, because it wears the mask of care.

Real friendship isn't tested by conversation — it's tested by which direction a person moves when you're doing badly: closer, or further away. With a real friend you can sit in silence in the mountains for a day and not get tired of each other, you can call at three in the morning and hear "on my way" instead of "what happened." There are few of these people, and that's how it should be — there was never supposed to be many. Today, do one simple thing: remember who was actually there for you this past year in a hard moment, not a celebration, and write to that person. Just thank you, no occasion needed. And if you catch yourself envying someone else's success, admit it to yourself honestly, out loud, even if only alone. That's the first step toward becoming the friend you actually want to have.
