Help That Didn't Come as Money

Let me tell you a story from Bali — the kind that reminds me the path keeps leading somewhere, even when everything feels like it's falling apart. A few years ago I was stuck in Goa — tired, almost out of money, with no idea what came next. On the beach I got talking to a stranger. I asked her what she dreamed of. "Bali," she said. I smiled and told her: "So book the ticket — and go." And right then I realized — I was really saying it to myself. I bought a ticket the next day.

A couple of days later I was on the island — anxious, with money running low fast. And then, almost like a sign, friends of mine unexpectedly landed there too — a family who'd just been pulled off a film shoot at the last minute. We spent a whole month together. I showed them the island, became their guide. And without even knowing it, they saved me — not with money, just by being there. Since then I know one thing for sure: help doesn't always come as money. Sometimes it's just a person, at the right moment — and someone believing you'll make it through. — Nikolai (Nikola Blajen)
