Today's card is "Song of the Soul." Not the pretty word "soul" you see on greeting cards. It's about the thing inside you that's gone quiet — because you're the one who shut it up. I know this in my body, right away. There are days when I'm all tasks, calls, deadlines, small talk that means nothing — and at some point I catch myself: I haven't actually been inside myself for days. Not with myself, just next to myself — running the body like a machine, and never bothering to ask the one actually driving where it wants to go. In periods like that the soul doesn't scream, it does something worse — it quietly goes into the shade and waits. I remember a forest in winter, snow up to my knees, and out there, with not a single sound around, it suddenly spoke — not in words, more like a recognition: here I am, I've been here the whole time, you just never turned around.
The honest hard part is that admitting this is shameful. Not in front of anyone else — in front of yourself: how could I live past myself for so long, forget to thank the one part that held me together while I chased everything else. And harder still — forgiving yourself for it instead of starting a new round of self-punishment that just presses the soul back into the shade. It's not one flat thing, by the way, I've felt that on my own skin — there's the soul that wrote a book through the nights, the one that screamed at itself for weakness, the one that quietly delighted in something as small as morning coffee. All of them are real, none of them need shame. What to do today — simple, almost awkward in how simple it is: stop for a minute, close your eyes, and say it out loud or to yourself — hi, I'm here, sorry I forgot, thank you for staying close. Don't expect a miracle right away, expect only honesty with yourself in that one minute. Thoughts steer the body, and the soul steers the thoughts — if it's sitting in the shade, everything else will wobble no matter how hard you try to fix it from outside.
"Don't look for your soul out there — it's been waiting inside all along, for you to turn around."
